If you run them tight - bolt up, it will increase the rear grip. People tend to run without them for weight and also if you have a rear shunt and you are running it loose - when bent it could tighten up and alter your handling during a race causing the rear end of the kart to grip up. If you don't want the rear grip that would not be good.
