I presume this is a senior Max.

I would suspect the power valve operation at 7000 + rpm and is the easiest thing to check first.

The blade could have come loose.

The blade may need cleaning.

It could be binding in the slot.

The bellows spring may not be fitted correctly and the bellow isn't caught all the way around under the spring, allowing exhaust gas to leak.

Has it been set to the correct length?
