The 'trick' one with the slot should have a greater distance from the centre of the column to the track rod holes. The effect of this is to apply a greater input on the track rod to the steering arm. The steering response will be heavier but faster / quicker, ideal or better for twisty tracks with many and quick changes in direction. We ran it before we retired and my lad liked it a lot. But if you have perhaps a cadet driver moving onto a junior chassis, they tend to steer too fast to start with and the std column might be better for you. Also if the track is fast and flowing it might not make much difference. Be aware is you run one and spares are not readily available where you race you might have to carry a spare; if you have a prang and bend a column on race weekend your set up may go out the window if you put your original back on!
