Did you have the jets set correctly?
Running too rich gives the effects you have.
Mine was doing the same until I reset the jets.

They should be set to

Little screw - 2 to 2 1/4 turns out
T bar - 15 minutes to 25 minutes out or what talko states as 0.2 - 0.4 of a turn out.
