Awssuming the electronics are the same as the Formula Blue technology, the switch is only ther to control the start process.
I have completely disconnected teh switch after starting and the engine keeps running.
The problem is simply that the switch allows several things to happen,
1) Turning the start ignition features on
2) Switching power to the starter
3) as Soon as the onboard generator sends power to the ECU, power to the starter is switched off. (this is why the switch doesn't have a spring load away from start once the engine is running
4) Switch to the "running" engine map.
Water in the switch should not be a problem because fresh water won't transmit the 12 Volts sufficiently to cause interference, but it never is fresh water, it is full of contaminants like WD 40, bits of metal off the key and so on, so what happens is that the switch starts sending contrary messages to the ECU.
The easy answer is to move the switch ( the common place in FB is below the steering wheel on the A frame) some people have moved it to a bracket under the nassau panel. Even there, if the weather is bad, standing water etc, the switch can be affected.
I solved it by taping (duct tape) a section of plastic bin bag over the switch mounting, allowing one to still operate the switch but keeping it reasonable dry.
The Old Power packs (on top of the battery) used to have 'rubber buttons' which were also vulenerable to the wet so had a wet 'bag', of rubberised cotton with a clear top panel, which velcro-ed in place, over battery, power box and buttons. Make Up something similar with a soft plastic (clear plastic bag) top so you can twist the starter key and you should be laughing.....and it will be a lot cheaper than the wet bag that even now from the official 'source' which even now will be seeking out your wallet.
Plastic bags and duct tape are hardly in short supply at a kart track.
I know it is heresy, but Formula Blue has been around for over a decade. Make friends with us and learn from our experience, rather than making the same mistakes all over again!
