We did our first x30 junior weekend recently - the race day 3 lap practice and 1st heat was awash with standing water and rain. We had problems starting the kart after our 1st heat and nearly missed the 2nd. We tracked it down to water in the key ignition despite the battery and ECU being bagged up in plastic. We had to remove it and dry it out thoroughly. It seems slightly short sighted of IAME to include a horizontally mounted key ignition when water/rain will simply flow into the key slot, unlike a rubber button starter. Do I have to stick with the standard IAME kit for the sake of regulations or can I fit a Rotax style waterproof button starter on an X30?
