Nail very nicely hit on head there Chris. Yes, the old SLCs could last a long time, but there was a lot of "edge" to a new set of tyres. It has interested me a lot this year that at some circuits under some conditions a new set of "New Age" Maxxis TKM can be a small step backwards in terms of lap times compared with a set that are a race meeting old.

I also preferred the driving style needed for the older slicks, but as well as being a fair bit grippier, I think the new tyres offer an advantage in giving more even performance through the life of a set of tyres. If they brought the old ones back into production they wouldn't be Ł70 a set, and if you needed a new set every meeting to be competitive the cost of racing in TKM would go up. A lot of us are merrily getting 2-3 meetings out of a set of the newer rubber.
