I've never seen the inside of a Rotax engine so this is general advice. I assume from what you've said the bearing can't be knocked out because it's in a blind hole?
Reminds me of the layshaft bearing in my Norton Commando gearbox: can be a real problem to extract for the same reason.
I suppose what they mean by dropping the casing on a piece of wood is heating the case first and depending on gravity to do the rest: mainly this will work.
If not, an old and trusted trick is to heat the cases, fill the bearing inner (where the shaft fits) with grease or other dense liquid, insert the shaft and deliver an intelligent blow to the end of the shaft with a soft hammer.
This should jack the bearing out of the blind casing by hydraulic pressure.
Well, works on the Norton layshaft bearing so worth a try.
