As one of the visiting drivers I have read the comments with interest. We don't have big wallets, we don't rent kit, we can't afford damage, we probably have less kit than most club drivers. Yes we use a team but my husband works weekends and it is either that or we can't race. The only crash we had was not caused by a S1 driver and we picked up a lot of damage, I'm not moaning, that's racing and we fully accept it comes with the sport.
I stood at race control listening to the club cadets whilst waiting for the results and they were loving the racing, they respected the pace of the faster guys and were working out how to sit behind them and pick up tips. They were all excited and good natured. the parents by contrast had very opposing views.
I do feel that the visiting drivers and teams have been very badly represented since that meeting, I know my lad and his team mate tried to give the locals space, he knew who he was trying to compete with and on practice day where he had the choice he purposefully hung back to get on track with them.
Finally, I feel that visiting drivers should be exempt from club championship points as this is not fair on the young lads who are robbed off the wider margin of points awarded at the top. I did mention this to the Rissy Comp Sec.
