Ian,

I hope Riccardo follows your very clear plan. I think if most do they will end up with what suits them best.
The key thing is not to dive into any purchase with the passion of dealing with something until you have experienced all / most of the options, this goes for MSA or IKR, I would personally advise any new starter to go IKR to start with and see where it takes them without spending much on anything special until you know what standard you will be at or want to be. Last thing is not to try to chase success with money - that's when the fun factor goes and the stress comes in!
Riccardo depending on your budget - if it's normal mortals, spend time with privateers to see where you want to go / can go, spend some time with your own kit in IKR. Only when you are up to speed consider teams supporting you if you can afford. IMO teams for beginners is a waste of money!
