We usually recommend the same thing every time:-

1) Buy NOTHING..... yet!
2) Tell us where you are and someone will tell you about the next meeting near you
3) Make an offer on here to help carrying, polishing, cleaning, fetching and buying the teas and bacon sarnies at the next appropriate meeting.
4) Someone will say 'Hi Riccardo.... come and spend the day with us'. You will then get a FAR closer view of what we do and how we do it.
5) Do that for AT LEAST 3 meetings, preferably at more than one track and more than one class of karts.
6) Once you've done that, you'll know some people in karting who can help you, you'll know the costs and the effort involved and you'll know if the next stage looks brilliant or horrifying. THAT'S the time to think about buying something and not one SECOND before then! You'll also know people who can help and advise you.

Rotax is a good class but it tends to be expensive if you want to be at the front. TKM is cheaper (usually) but still costs an arm and a leg if you want to WIN a championship. However, Rotax is a sealed class and that means only certain companies can 'open' the engine to work on it. It was originally suggested this would keep the costs down.... it does NOT! In fact, it makes it more expensive (in my opinion). Secondly, it's supposed to make the engines more 'equal'. That's even funnier..... it doesn't (my opinion, again).

TKM is not perfect either but you can fix the engine yourself. Yes, you don't have DIY skills YET but you will develop them if you want to progress. We all started knowing nothing..... some still don't! You will learn! When you meet some of the 'monkeys' in karting, you will immediately see that, if THEY can do it, so can YOU! If you don't have that sort of attitude, then.... karting may not be right for you. Most of us are arrogant B*ST*RDS who think we can walk on water if we could be bothered to try..... If you really can't fix things yourself (disabled, etc.) then you can hire help but...... that is NOT cheap.

Karting has a HUGE range of options and you MUST NOT decide what you want until you have seen everything that is on offer. Daytona karts will be fun BUT they are NOT close to the performance of a FULL race kart. Be prepared for some stunning experiences!

Please note, this is ONLY my opinion and others will disagree with me vehemently! That's karting! Oh..... it's hilarious and fabulous fun so long as you have the right attitude!
