Hello Paul,
sounds like you've found the problem. Due to how the clutch of this type works the linings do wear as you describe. This is because the three "arms" of the clutch expand further by centrifugal force at the ends, so the linings wear more at this point.
All parts of the clutch run on the same crankshaft end, so misalignment would not be the cause and if John Force has worked on the crank, you can be sure it's correct.
