Thanks for the ideas so far.
Our engine is with the builder now who is going to strip the thing down and check the bottom end etc. I have also passed on the idea that it might be the ignition failing.

We too have had problems setting the carb up well to perform on track - tried leaner / richer settings on the high and low needles with no consistent improvement. Our engine also sounds flat - like a hoover when compared to faster engines.

How much adjustment to the jetting are people finding that they are having to make from dyno settings with varying weather conditions ? I must admit that the engine running too hot has not been one of the problems that we have encountered so far.
