Got to agree with Ian here, but would add that if you don't experiment with seat position you're missing out on the most fundamental chassis tuning aid there is on a kart. When I started someone advised me to put the seat in a position that felt comfortable to drive, and then try to adjust the track, ackermann, toe, etc. to get the kart to handle well. This was really bad advice. What has worked for me has been to find the fore-aft position that gets the kart settled into the most neutral handling. Then to adjust the height to get some rear end bite without bouncing too much. After that I'll adjust the steering column, pedals, and to an extent the seat angle so I can drive comfortably.
I think OTK usually recommend 610mm from front of seat to back of front chassis tube. 10 - 15 mm protrusion through the bottom of the chassis rails, and about 200 - 220mm from the top of the back axle to the lip at the top of the back rest. It's probably a good start point if you're about 5' 10" and 11 stone, but whatever way around, it's a start point for experimentation rather than "where the seat needs to be".
