Yes, a minor spin will cost him practice time..... and thus he'll have a damned good reason to make CERTAIN he doesn't spin.... that's what we ALL used to do. However, if he has a clutch, he doesn't need to be so fixated on avoiding a spin.

Now move that to a race. How many races have you seen won when someone with a clutch spins significantly and returns, using the clutch, to win the race???? Winners are those who travel fastest and DON'T spin, they are NOT won by those who recover, using the clutch!

His skill level at avoiding a costly spin will improve without a clutch..... if he gets used to a clutch to start with, he'll have a lot of catching up to do, later.

Remember, I have no axe to grind: I don't SELL clutches or ANYTHING in karting.

Hone his SKILL: don't pander to any assumed weaknesses.

Oh..... and save MONEY for things that will make him go faster!
