IF you have sucked a stone in the damage will already be done unfortunately, however if you were running with one of these over your airbox intake it will be unlikely.....

Have you had a look through the exhaust and carb ports to see if their is anysign of gauging in the barrel.
Again if it has this is not a cheap fix you could be looking at a new cylinder,piston and rings plus building costs. Personally if I was you just starting out I wouldn't bother and just by another motor for no more than Ł100, my boys got one of his old motors as a bedroom ornament. Or contact dynamax to see if his sons drivers have any? But don't pay more than Ł100!
I'm near Halifax if you fancy a drive I'll have a look no problem.
