Grids in general have got smaller across all classes. That's got to be money hasn't it?
The thing I reckon made the biggest difference to TKM was the tyre change. It's really difficult to get the older chassis karts competitive on the new tyres. Experienced drivers were able to make them work, but trying to set up an old JKH or Venom so that a novice can learn to drive in it is a bit of a challenge. Quite dispiriting at the time, as some of the more experienced drivers were driving round the chassis issues with serious aplomb, and making it all look quite stylish at the same time.
The move to allow CIK chassis should have been a positive one, but I for one never figured out that a CIK chassis with a front torsion bar welded in was potentially a better kart for the money than a JKH that had been very competitive on the old rubber.
Just one opinion, but it took some serious tenacity to get a competitive kart without springing for a late model Tonykart Viper. I think a lot would have given up, thinking they couldn't drive, or that there was something wrong with the formula.
