I may not be up to date with the latest regulations but there was a list of approved oils.

With the comer cadet engine there used to be two oils used - one for practice and one for race days. The practice oil would put carbon on the piston head but the race oil (synthetic?) took it off - affecting the squish.

When the Tryton carb was introduced there were a lot of problems and at one point it was suggested that this was down to these different oils.

Other contributors to this forum may be able to give more information on the process but the MSA decided to go with the CIK/FIA approved list of lubricants for cadets in the 2006 gold book(I believe this was already the approved list for other classes) as per this link:- http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/newsarticle.asp?chapter=0&nid=975

In the 2013 Gold Book under iame Cadet there is the following clause:-

B2.1.4 Engine Lubrication
. The only oils permitted are those specified in the current CIK list of
homologated lubricants. The current list can be f
ound on the CIK-FIA website at www.cikfia.com.

Hope this helps but must have a little dig - when you sign on for a race meeting you do state that you understand all the rules for the class - you should at least have read thye relevent gold book section.
