But if there is a performance gain to be had on these old tyres, why should you be allowed to continue using them?!

The way I see it is after the 1st April (I believe that's the correct date) EVERYBODY has to use these new wets. Whether they are slower or faster is irrelevant, if everybody has to use them, nobody gains an advantage.

If the tyres were advertised as going to have similar wear rates in their operating zone but they actually don't, then you are all entitled to an explanation. However, I can see from the lap times that the final at Kimbolton must've been drier than the heats, and if they burn out quicker in drying conditions then as drivers and teams it adds emphasis to needing to make the right call pre-race. Which is a good thing.

My question would be why are clubs continuing to allow the old tyres to be run if there is a gain to be had? It's unfair on those who have bought new tyres (out of necessity or otherwise). I appreciate the rules allow them to be used until a certain date, but in the interest of fairness would it not be prudent to change it?
