sounds like you need to learn how to do a rolling start, if you let the revs stay to low and don't "clear" the engine.exhaust before the green light you will be slower that all those that do keep their motors cleaner.

Try hanging back a little more from the kart in front, then before everyone go give it some throttle to clear the engine (don't hit the kart in front). ANother method is to pinch the fuel pipe to reduce down the fuel going in, but unless you know what you are doing you can cut all the fuel off.
