We 'did the math' very early on with only a few seconds thought and told our boys, karting is a hobby; race to win but that's it - you are not going to be the next F1 star. We wanted something that got the FAMILY away from the house together and to create memories they can look back at - the are not at home for long and once they have gone they have their own lives to live. I still remember my youth days well - grass track racing with my dad, low budget but a huge amount of effort got us results, the rest of my 'home life' apart from a few odd choice holidays, fades into normal living memories which don't stand out. Throw more money aqt it if we had it means more pressure to succeed. I still think my lad is talented, otherwise he wouldn't have won the club championship and lap record on probably the oldest chassis on the grid, beating teams etc. with no tuition - just what we have figured out for ourselves and keeping an open mind to learn. But as with hundreds / thousands of other talented kids they will never get a test against the rest at the big time due to money or lack of it! No big deal, it is what it is, we'll enjoy what we do in the meantime and learn along the way.
