Russ I don't know if there are different batches of CNC barrels with one regarded as slightly better than the other. As I understand it, CNC barrels are made to much tighter tolerances compared to the cast barrels so in theory all CNC barrels should be virtually identical but here in lies the problem.

Lets say that with the cast barrels there are 20 different barrel sizes available and all are legal because they fit within the legal measurements. Well with CNC you might be able to make every single barrel virtually identical but what measurement would you use to make them? If there are 20 different legal cast barrels available then in theory you have 20 different size options available. It's perfectly possible that they have had a batch of CNC barrels made a few years ago to one measurement and then a few years later when they were due to have another batch made they could have decided to slightly alter the target measurement believing that the barrel would perform better. It would still be within the legal measurements but it would just be slightly different than the first batch.

The only way they could eradicate this problem would be to tighten up the legal measurements and always use the same measurement for the CNC which would in effect write off a lot of cast barrels as they would fall outside the measurements due to the much looser manufacturing tolerances.

So I don't know how many different types of CNC barrels there are but it wouldn't surprise me if there was one batch that was regarded as better than another.

The question would be whether the difference is worth worrying about?
