well the big difference comes depending on how competitive you want to be, most 4 strokes are competitive out of the box, however the same cannot be said for most 2 strokes. So 2 stroke owner/driver can be as cost effective as 4 stroke, just you'll be running round at the back compared to the money being spent by the front runners.
