have a look at the drive sprocket on your engine, is it a short one or a long one? If you have the long drive sprocket, then you wont need to machine the crank case or buy a longer crank. You already have the clutched motor that has been converted to direct drive. If it has the short dive sprocket, you might be better off selling it and buying a clutched motor, it will work out cheaper than converting it to a clutched motor.
If your carb is set correctly and you have "primed" the carb/engine just before going out, it should start first time every time.
