The Tryton carb is very fickle and it's common practice for us to strip and clean the carb at least once every day to keep the needle valve from sticking or sticking open.

Some say you should put in a new kit every day you run aswell but we have not found that necessary for performance. We actually got 5 hours out of one carb kit without any problems (winning races) but a new kit every 2-3 hours is a reasonable compromise.

Regarding the pop off and spring to use these are all just part of the variables that will affect where the jets need to be set to give optimum performance.

With this carb the only way to get close to the optimal settings is to have the engine run on a dyno and the jets set to give best torque and top end revs. The engine tuner should then mark these settings for you and you then just move the L jet setting to keep the engine temperature right for a given day.

You definately don't need the washer and these are not supplied with the genuine tryton kits.

Most reputable engine builder will dyno your engine and set the carbs properly for say £30-£50. Believe me this is money well spent.

That's our experience for what it's worth.
