Ouch, expensive! I hate to ask but could it be the driver? Not sure if that's you or your son/daughter-just know from experience with my son and watching other kids starting out not understanding you can't apply throttle and brake at the same time, then bang clutch goes.

Otherwise I'd guess something making it very hard work for the clutch, binding brakes maybe, so essentially clutch operating as normal ie engine generating enough centrifugal force but slipping due to too much stress? I've been lucky clutch-wise with my FB (everything else has broken though!).
