So long as the brakes are NOT dragging, why would you want MORE gap?

You can test this (if you can spin your kart to a stop without brakes). Let the brakes cool. Go and do a lap W*I*T*H*O*U*T using the brakes AT ALL! Return to a safe place to stop, again WITHOT BRAKES! Then, immediately feel the disk. If it's hot, your brakes are dragging, if they not.... they are not!
