I use the Gillard type of exhaust bracket which does not seem to be a problem.

The OTK type of exhaust bracket can cause a problem with the exhaust hitting the brake disc.

However the solution is just to tilt the exhaust as you said in your post, whilst it may not look right it will have no detrimental affect on performance.
