I agree with the other comments on this, a combination of new tyres, bolting on all the best bits, and applying all of the chassis/gearing/carb setup information learned on the test day.

I also agree with Danlee that some drivers do raise their game on a Sunday once they have their 'race-heads' on. It my also be that case that - particularly in finals - the more experienced and quicker drivers will end up running together on the track and this in itself will tend to reduce lap times by providing a consistent 'tow'
