i think the ability of using a practise engine and having all the best bits at your disposal is probably the case, not too sure about the use of better drivers - let me explain a so called pratise engine for the top drivers as you put it is on par with the non front runners so an even playing field as proved in practise as they were no quicker on similar equipment - majority of the time its down to equipment and budget
