It sounds as if you have a bad earth connection somewhere. The 'flat battery' cranking is a typical sign of a bad earth.

It may be that your loom terminal is cracked or not making a metal to metal connection. I had a terminal crack a couple of weeks ago and the engine ran fine except that it would cut out momentarily down the straight after a left hand bend.

Whenever we get an irregular engine problem, check the earth connections first.
