Many people who race TKM used to prefer the SLC's (old tyres) as did I. They were indeed less grippy but I think that they provided a better dirving experience as there was more "skill involved". The new Maxxis tyres are quite grippy which of course enhances the overall performance of the kart but it think the karts became less fun to drive, but i suppose you get used to it.
So, seeing as you only intend to use them for practice I think that they are a great tyre choise as they provide more enjoyment (from the driving perspective).
