In the late 70s ealry 80s, If you raced in the top class, 100 International, the race tyres were open, and we even had qualifying tyres!! And if you raced abroad all the tyres manufacturers mades " special"
tyres just for certain drivers...seems mad , but true.......talking of costs, I often paid Ł150 to Ł200 for a set of " specials", even back then...seems nuts but if you did not a set there was no point in racing at that level.
