“So according to you, if you drive a blue top and catch a green top, then it’s a mobile road block, but in your testing a green top is a faster engine?”
yes SimonS a faster engine not competitor, you have missed the point completely about mid pack runners.
SimonS you conveniently missed out the words (out of each corner) (the same driver) Lets just go through a typical race lets say heat 1, with ten drivers.
You get given by the club your grid slots and lets say you start in 7th,
Now after some laps the faster boys have started there hunt for 1st and the ones not as fast move down the field towards you moving to meet them as you try also to move up the field. You arrive on the back of a blue top on your blue top out drag or brake to come along side and make your pass,
the other blue top will then fall in behind out of the corner and try to out drag or brake you on the next corner if he or she can stay with you.
You now arrive on the back of a green top, faster engine (out of each corner) but slower competitoryou pull the same manoeuvre and get alongside into the corner but now the green top has the bottom end grunt to pull away from you out of the corner and you have to do this a few time to make a clean pass
or just simply lean harder on the guy next time (not good racing ethics) by this time the race is getting away from you. This is the point I was trying to make, as we all cannot be the next Jensen B.
Now there will always be two camps on this if left, but it is one that needs addressing quickly as the ethos of blue is being undermined not by Rotax or TKM
but our own longstanding Blue drivers Scot, North and South. Now there are good signs in the South, North and Scotland of newcomers to Blue, but you cannot build a class if you cannot keep your core happy you only get turnover in drivers.

“Except that the forum is filled with discussions about whether one needs this barrel or that barrel of these supposedly identical engines, simply because there are differences.” SimonS you miss the point, All Rotax engines and TKM engines are Identical in design for the class they run in and yes you will get good and bad in a selection of engines, just like there are good and bad Blue tops. A green top by its design is different and therefore will always have a different characteristic.
Lets take juniors for a moment, one engine six restrictors, drivers of the same weight only have to contend with the same design power delivery.

“They seem to arrive in 'skill order' rather than identifiably green top or Blue top order.” SimonS, I have to question this, given the large number of concerns voiced by seniors from the South the North and Scotland.

“Of course, if you think that you are a better driver than someone else and they keep beating you, then clearly you have to blame something.”
SimonS intended as a derogatory statement but you have hit the nail on the head, if you remove or correct the perceived problem not just ignore or prevaricate over it, you will enhance the class.
