I'd drain fuel and water, less chance of making a mess of a rented van!

If you can, get hold of a plank of wood wide and long enough to cover the wheelarches across the inside of the van, get a reasonably sized toolbox at the front and rest the kart on that. You can slide other stuff in around it. If there is scope for the kart to move forward or backward and you can't place things around the kart to stop it, see if you can use tie-down straps to lock it in place
