As a ball park i've always geared it so it just hits peak revs at the end of the main straight. Dean are you saying if you had the power curve further up the rev range it could benefit running at max rpm for longer and a power curve lower down may not benifit from hitting peak revs. Do you need a dyno reading to know this?

I suppose what i'm asking is gearing for peak revs at the end of the longest straight a good way of gearing a kart to get you in the ball park and then gearing to whats happening on the track against competitors. i.e if your all over someone on the bends but losing out on the straight a bit you may benifit from dropping a tooth or two and vice verca.
