Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
Alan, I'm pretty sure it's the original charger because I keep it in the box exclusively for the transponder, but I'll check it.
Seems strange we've had no trouble for 6 years then it only fails to work when we don't use it and leave it discharged for a long time.
