The problem is more what you want to do as a unit.

Your first post stated that you wnated to start your daughter into karting, with the option of using the kart yourself.

This means a senior sized kart and a senior sized engine rather than a cadet.

Don't worry too much about the 'if she stalls it she cannot restart', because for years junior karters stalled and couldn't restart and didn't give up. Mind you, it means a lot of extra work for you or relying on other people to help her restart as they always used to.

However, it would be sensible to buy a clutched engine, or preferably TAG ( and I speak as ex-DD driver who even now shares his fair share of offs, being able to push the button is a lot easier than having to collect a clutched kart whose engine has stopped on the farthest corner of the track).

Don't worry about the 'It will be too fast' argument either. You can always restrict / stop the throttle. The only difficulty is sending her out in a deliberately slow kart with juniors exercising their full speed. That will depend on the practice opportunities at the track of choice. But if she is big and strong in relation to her age, she will be able to cope with competitive speeds quite quickly. ( A problem seems to be growing at Forest for example where what used to be the 'novice'/ pre-Arks/ non-licence holder practice seems to have been taken over by experienced non-MSA licence holders using it to race)

The next question is racing. She won't be able to race until she meets the criteria mentioned. Basically that's age. Some non-MSA tracks might let her race if she looks big enough but that's up to you. If she is racing, then she's on full throttle, restrictors as per the rules.

You have two basic engines, TKM and Blue, both at about the same speed and same costs to run. The Blue allows you to race as well if you wished, as 100cc Senior TKM is just about dead. You will probably find a secondhand Blue (which is TAG as standard) more easily than a TAG TKM.

So as far as practice is concerned, it's something of an open decision. If you want to race (MSA or Non MSA) then you need a grid and that depends how far you want to travel.

As far as I know there is no JTKM grid locally, though there may be one at Rye House and certainly one at Forest Edge and possibly Camberley. Junior Blue grids are equally rare, though there are some non-MSA blue grids about.

But that's this year, next year the favour may have fallen on a different engine. (Forest has seen the JBlues disappear and JTKMs appear as if by magic.)

Of course, if you restrict the throttle, and weren't worried about your own driving, then all the above is true of the Junior/Mini Max engine too. They are a little more common but may be more expensive to run, particularly if you want to do your own maintenance.

HTH, (even though I favour Blues because I drive one)
