hey ole
erm in terms of lap times, rotax are about a second quicker, theyre more powerful and have a lot of grip from their tyres.
ive only raced a tkm but absolutely loved it. they have newer tyres these days so have more grip but its still challenging.
in terms of grids, this year both 3s and hooton have had between 15-20 tkms, its down slightly this year as a few of us have retired and bought houses or moved onto different things but its still good cheep fun, i raced last year on 3K so pretty good
in terms of rotax, hootons snr rotax grid is about 7 and 3 sisters is about 14 so you have a really good choice to either do tkm or rotax.
either way both classes have their advantages, tkm is cheeper, there are less/no upgrades on a yearly bases where as rotax tend to bring out new clutches, exhausts etc, tkms still tend to be DD or clutch where as rotax have a shiny button to press, tkm tyres last 3-4 meetings, rotax less...
...basically if you want glamour, a faster kart etc rotax is your thing, if you dont care about the badge or a shiny button to start the kart thenn tkm is the way to go!
