Down the straights my speed was OK, it seemed to be pretty close to the quick guys who were passing me (though they all disappeared very quickly, so good comparisons were difficult!).

But compared to the few guys I could actually race with my straight line speed was faultless, I was towing onto people quite easily and able to charge past on the way in no bother at all. It was on the exits they just left me for dead no matter how smooth I was or how much I tried to avoid going in too deep. I tried bouncing & leaning to the point of half pulling the steering wheel off but nothing would make the thing shift when I got on the gas!

As for bolting on extra lead - I don't have the rules to hand but I was under the impression that the restrictor you ran was decided by driver weight, so as I'm only 62ish kgs in kit the gold is the only restrictor I can run?
