Just letting everyone know that as of the 1st May meeting at Three Sisters courtesy of the MBKC, a new tyre has been approved for the 125 gearbox class which is mega cheap!! The set of tyres will only cost £68 + vat !! The reason these have been introduced is to achieve better grids and maybe other clubs will follow suit. As in all Karting nowadays the tyres are too soft and do not last. The idea is that club racers can afford to race, as the same set of tyres can be used for a few meetings with only a minimal detrement to lap times. The tyres have had some rigorous testing on both short and long circuit and have proved their worth. The compound is obviously harder than the regular msa approved Dunlops and consequently slower lap times but you will not need a set for testing and a set for race day.So you will save around £300 just doing 1 meeting competitively. Also the kart set up and driver ability will play more of a part which is what karting used to be all about. Back in the days of Junior Britain using Bridgestone Ybn's you could do 6 meetings on the same set of tyres and still be at the front. Surely this is a big step forward for a club and it's members to have the balls to do something and get these tyres approved by the MSA. I hope fellow 125 drivers help promote this and enter the meeting. The class will be promoted as 125 open but really it will be kz2 with these tyres. Hopefully this will also attract the NKF drivers. Your thought's on this thread will be appreciated guys, thanks for reading.
