Mojo, as with any engine, there are occasions where all the tolerances used in the manufacture of the engine kind of complement each other to make what seems to be a particularly good engine. Conversely, the tolerances can also combine in a bad way to make a particularly poor performing engine too - what we used to call a 'friday afternoon job' which probably best describes most of the cr*p that came out of the British Leyland factories but hey, that's another story. Some people will say that an 02, 05, 07 or 09 Rotax engine is good, some say the 00 engine is best, some say 09 is best. The reason for this? Allegedly, because these are the years that Rotax changed their tooling to make their engines with as the old tooling was getting a bit worn and quality standards were slipping slightly resulting in some motors that were not performing perhaps as well as they could have been. It's not a given that if you get an engine from one of these years that it will be quicker or stronger but I think it might be fair to say you do perhaps stand a slightly better chance although, I am sure others will disagree with this.
I stand to be corrected on the years but I think I am right - anyone?
