Adie, stupid questions but, does your track have a magnetic strip?
Also, is the Alfano dry? Wet/damp causes problems, especially in the cable connections
Is the battery good? If unsure, replace it.
Have you tried wiggling the wires to see if there's a good connection?
Has the Alfano been working but packed up?
What I do to test ours is pass a magnetic screwdriver under the sensor - we've had problems with ours in the past and I found doing this kicked it into life (this was after winter where it had been unused for a while).
