Various views on the tight loose question, I have tried both and I believe that the best way is tight with a drop of threadlock ensuring you do not overload it and cause it to run into the O ring and harden. I even know of one well known engine builder that 'crimps' the thread if the rod with side cutters to act a an anti vibration device instead of using threadlock.
As for the overall length I quoted of 74.5mm I gave this as a basic spec. The exact perfect length may vary from valve to valve & motor to motor and is the point at which I start when setting a valve on the Dyno.
