Just the real basics, seen loads of people especially on eBay offer older stuff thats cleaned up with new bodywork asking a lot of money.
With the chassis make sure it has the legal side pod mounting points, ie not angled but sqaure. With the Max just make sure its sealed and has the log book. If you are going to convert a senior to a mini I would still rather it was sealed so at least you then know the internals are legal rather than trusting someones word for it.
Always play it safe and go to a reputable dealer as they will probably part ex the cadet too. Budget should get you a nice tidy kart in my opinion. If isn't planning on racing this season I wouldn't worry about the exact regs, such as airbox, as it could always change again in the future.
