ok, i m not a tkm dad, but a thought outside the box, shoot me down guys if i m wrong,
WD40 is a releasing agent for siezed parts rather than a lube. its like when ur petrol cap seizes on your car, the last thing you should use is wd40 this tends to dry components out and make it worse. copper slip is better.
also if it works when connecting directly to a battery and missing out the majority of the wiring, would that suggest a slight voltage drop when going through the wiring. so maybe an earth leakage somewhere
