Thanks very much for the explanation John.
Is it fair to say then that if either the 8.5 or 12.5 venturi works well enough in this progression zone with any idle jet / float and needle / main jet combo, and there isn't a definite set of carb settings / atmospheric conditions which determine which venturi to use, then
Either 1. the prog port is not a the most critical element in the fuel flow at this point (i.e. idle or needle is)
or - 2. The optimum window at this point is quite wide and Dellorto got their sums right around the optimum with both 12.5 and 8.5?
- So maybe its more to do with the drivers feel than the actual fuelling that determines which is the right carb to use at which track / engine / driver?
(I know - one word answer - four letters, ends in T meaning to try or to examine!)
