"iv always used the curbs that everyone else does and dont see the problem "

I don't see why they prosecuted Christadoulou for an illegal engine. After all, it's only engineering and everyone could do it.

And if I can set my kart up for it, why can't I cut across the grass at Clay Pigeon and miss out the left hander, then straight across the track to retake the grass and cut out the top bend. If I ask really nicely, they could tarmac in a footpath for me too. I could probably knock 5 seconds and 300 yards off the lap and time then.

It's something of a circular argument, they design a track to challenge the driver but the driver can go faster if he isn't challenged. They put obstructions in to keep the driver on the track, the drivers then drive on the obstructions and complain that it makes them go slower.

The logic of the regulations is fairly clear. The kerbs etc are safety run-off areas. If you need the safety runoff regularly, then you cannot be driving safely and as such should not be driving. If you take the safety runoff deliberately, then you are cheating, as much as if you had a non-compliant engine.

So, make your mind up, do you want to drive with dangerous drivers or cheating drivers?

Of course, there is a middle ground. Drivers are always pushing themselves to the edge, and with other drivers around them, cannot always get it right. The run-offs exist to make it safer to make mistakes. But usually it's fairly obvious if a driver has made a mistake, he goes slower than other karts, not faster.

The difficulty comes with the driver who will deliberately drive dangerously or off the track and then claim that it was 'mistakes', and use a lawyer to create a smokescreen at the national court and get off. ( A bit like the celebrity who was unashamedly and admittedly drunk, caused an accident and got off by claiming that the police described the colour of his car 'wrongly' as in 'Blue' not "Azure" or whether he was alone in his car, but not if he was driving at the time).

Hence the MSA discussion on whether they can instigate a no-argument type of punishment, to try to return karting to the drivers rather than the wallets.
