Hi Dave,

The general opinion of the more experienced in TKM is that the DD option is slightly faster. Apparently this comes about due to increased engine braking: in any case the majority of the fast lads seem to use DD, so there must be something in it.

We went for the clutched option at first because of ease of starting, the reasons being explained at the start of the thread.

But due to reliability & financial considerations, we decided to try DD later in the season. For a start, the clutches aren't cheap to buy, or maintain. I've had to buy several new friction plates (through breakage, not wear)and a new cover due it cracking and bursting.

Maybe we've been unlucky, but another team we run with have had much the same experience. Component parts are all prone to fail eventually of course, especially when racing, we figured not having a clutch reduces the chances of breakdown.

Less weight isn't a reason for us to go DD, Aidan needs lots of lead to even meet the lowest weight band!

Kimbolton this weekend?

Dave.
