To a degree but you only have a limited amount of travel on the slide, so probably only a tooth either way if the slide was in the middle to begin with.

Are you having trouble in getting the tension right because it varies at different points or is it getting it right in general?

I use the engine backstop to get the tension just slightly tighter than I need when the front clamp is barely nipped up, then I know it will be ok once the back clamp is tightened and I can back off the stop 1/2 a turn.

A varying tension needs to be sorted by finding the cause, and that's quite easy usually.
